Ashes of Courage

greets the morning dew

Fall is waiting

for its time

to renew

Summer memories fade along with the days

Who knew this morning would forever change our ways

Father Paul

does his morning prayer

Melissa’s late

and leaves her coffee there

Jimmy hugs his dad and leaves for school

Jack the plumber has forgotten his tools

But the devil’s children

find their way inside

They leave their mark,

then like cowards they hide

From the darkness

and these embers of hate

Came the heroes

who did not hesitate

Through the ashes

and the burning flames

Searching for those, not even knowing their names

Their courage lives as the memories remain

While summer fades

to autumn’s demands
