    One Night Story

    Mcee

    Yeah…

    Late night, streetlights buzzing

    Corner store still open,

whole block watching Let me tell you ’bout one night—

    It was one night,

one call, one decision Rain on the pavement,

whole block caught the tension Bro said,

“Trust me,” but his eyes told a different story One night changed

everything, now the memory haunt me One night,

one night, everything went left Blue lights dancing off the windows on

the steps Had a plan for the money,

ended up with regret Funny how your closest friend can leave you

    with a mess

    Jay hit my phone,

“Bro, where you at?” I was posted by the store where the

old heads play chess at Streetlamp blinking,

rain tapping on the glass Taxi rolling slow,

corner preacher walking past Two cars idling with the headlights low Kids

on the porch got their jackets zipped closed Somebody yelling from the

second-floor window While the bass from a parked car shook the whole

    row Jay pulled up,

stepped out, hood over his head Looked around twice before he said

what he said “Got a little play,

couple racks on the table” But the way he said it made

the whole thing feel unstable I looked across the street—same faces,

    different

vibe Corner got quiet when the headlights passed by Jay wouldn’t look

at me, kept his hands in his coat That’s when every little

    detail started screaming, “Don’t go”

    It was one night,

    one call, one decision

    Rain on the pavement,

whole block caught the tension Bro said,

“Trust me,” but his eyes told a different story One night changed

everything, now the memory haunt me One night,

one night, everything went left Blue lights dancing off the windows on

the steps Had a plan for the money,

ended up with regret Funny how your closest friend can leave you

    with a mess

    Jay finally cracked, “Man,

    I gotta tell you something”

Rain hitting hard while the sirens started coming “I made a bad

choice, now the whole thing coming down” I said,

“You should’ve told me ’fore you brought me around” Then the block

went still—every porch light glowing Dogs started barking,

neighbors cracked doors open Sirens getting closer,

red reflections in the rain Everybody had a story,

nobody knew the same Next morning,

coffee shop buzzing with the news Old man at the counter saying,

“Man, that’s bad news” Jay’s phone dead,

his spot empty, no word But everybody had a theory by the

time the sun surfaced I walked past the corner where we used

to stand Saw two candles flickering underneath a cardboard sign That’s when

it hit me harder than anything before: You can know somebody ten

years and still not know their core Streetlights buzzing…

rain on the road… Same block,

    different night.

    But after that night,

    nothing felt the same.

    Watch who you trust.

    Not everybody standing beside you

    is standing with you.
