I spent years in the darkness,

thinking I was alive,

Wearing smiles on my face while I was dying inside.

Chasing everything the world said would make me whole,

But every road that I took left a crack in my soul.

chained to my past,

Trying to outrun the pain,

but the memories last.

I carried my shame like a weight on my back,

Till I heard Your voice saying,

"Child, come back." I said,

"God, You don't know everything that I've done," But You said,

"I know, and I still call you My son." I expected condemnation,

You showed me grace,

I was looking for a judge,

but I found an embrace.

You didn't tell me I was perfect,

You told me I was Yours.

You reached into the prison

And You opened every door.

You set me free,

You broke every chain that was holding me.

I was lost, I was blind,

I was dead inside,

But You brought me back to life.

You set me

Now the past has no authority over me.

I don't have to run,

I don't have to hide,

'Cause I know I'm alive in Christ.

I had burned so many bridges,

made so many mistakes,

Thought I'd gone too far for redemption to take.

But mercy came running when I couldn't move,

You stepped into the mess and You changed everything.
