I remember the girl I used to be…

Before the darkness… Before the fear…

Before the snakes.

I used to wake beneath the sunlight With the ocean in my

eyes I had dreams that felt eternal I believed the world was

kind I never wanted to be worshipped I never wanted to be

divine I only wanted to live my life And leave a little

love behind

Then something changed The heavens turned away

And everything I knew

Was taken from me that day

I WAS HUMAN BEFORE THE SNAKES!

I HAD A HEART BEFORE THE PAIN!

I had a name!

I had a life!

I had a soul they couldn’t take!

Before these eyes became my curse!

I didn’t ask to become a monster!

I didn’t choose this life of hurt!

I looked into the mirror And I didn’t know my face My

hair had turned to serpents My reflection filled me with disgrace Then

came too close to me

I screamed and begged them to run But when they looked into

my eyes… They turned to stone.

I didn’t mean to hurt them I didn’t want them dead But

now the world will tell the story And make me what they

said

What am I now?

A woman?

A monster? A curse?

A story?

If nobody remembers who I was… Was I ever human at all?
