    Framed in Rain

    Xavier Acosta|1

I saved the messages I couldn't send you,

A digital graveyard of untyped words.

The static humming through the empty station,

Is the only answer that I ever heard. I

step outside into the sudden rainstorm,

My umbrella tilted to the quiet street.

Every reflection in the streetlamp puddles,

Shows a path where we no longer meet.

If I play the piano through the midnight silence,

Will the melody reach where you are tonight?

We were painting pictures with the autumn colors,

Now the canvas faded into blinding white.

The clock keeps ticking on the wooden counter,

A steady rhythm counting up the years.

I’m still standing at the intersection,

Washing away the rest of my tears.

Your coat is hanging by the wooden doorway,

    Shedding memories I cannot erase.

I bought two tickets for the final movie,

And left the empty seat beside my place.

You used to tell me that the rain was gentle,

A soothing blanket over all our pain.

So why does every single drop that falls now,

Whisper out the letters of your name?

The world moves forward while I'm stuck in place,

A single frame inside a broken film.

I try to remember the sound of your laugh,

In a room that grew suddenly

    still.

The streetlamps flicker as the storm rolls away.

I fold my umbrella against the breeze.

Goodbye to the shadows we used to chase...

Lost in the quiet rustle of the leaves.
