forty-two... The bell is ringing,
take your seats
I've got my highlighter ready to go
We're on the chapter about ancient Greece
And I am itching for the reading show
The teacher opens up the heavy book
I clear my throat,
I get ready to shine
She asks the room who wants to start
I know this section entirely by heart!
My hand is up in the air
I am reaching for the ceiling,
I swear!
The teacher knows it,
the whole class too
I just want to read the textbook to you!
Yeah, my hand is up in the air!
Seven kids are staring at my desk
Hoping that she calls on anyone else
I sit in silence doing my best
Keeping my fingers locked on the shelf
My arm is straight,
a statue of steel
Waiting for the magic words to be real
She looks around and sighs with a smile
She hasn't called on me
in a while!
My hand is up in the air
I am reaching for the ceiling,
I swear!
The teacher knows it,
the whole class too I just want to read the textbook to
you!
Yeah, my hand is up in the air!
Just let me read the paragraphs
Ignore the whispers and the little laughs
I've got the voice,
I've got the drive
Reading aloud makes me feel alive!
My hand is up!
Yeah, it's still up!
Please just call on me! (ahhhh)
