Yeah... Funny how the people you trust
Can teach you not to trust anybody.
But somewhere underneath all that damage...
I’m still here.
I gave people my heart,
they gave me reasons to hide,
Put my faith in their hands,
watched 'em twist it inside.
I believed every promise,
every “I got your back,” Till the ones that said they loved
me
were the ones who attacked.
Now I question every smile,
every word, every hand,
Wonder who's really with me and who's part of the plan.
I built walls so high
even I couldn't climb,
Lost pieces of myself
just protecting my mind.
I used to laugh without thinking,
used to speak what I felt,
Now I second-guess everything,
don't recognize myself. Somewhere along the way I became what they wanted
to see, Forgot the person underneath who I was supposed to be.
I trusted people, they taught me pain,
I gave them sunshine,
they brought the rain.
I lost myself trying to be somebody else,
Now I'm digging through the wreckage
Trying to find me again.
I've been angry at the world,
angry at my reflection,
Every scar in the mirror looking like a fucking confession.
I blamed myself for the people who betrayed me,
Asked what was wrong with me,
why nobody could save me.
But maybe nothing was wrong,
maybe I just chose wrong,
Gave loyalty to people who never belonged.
So I'm learning how to breathe without watching the door,
Learning I don't have to be who I was before.
I trusted people, they taught me pain,
I gave them sunshine,
they brought the rain.
I lost myself trying to be somebody else,
Now I'm digging through the wreckage
And I'm finding me again.
I don't need revenge.
I don't need closure.
I survived it. And maybe that's the beginning.
I'm still breathing. Still becoming.
