    Grinding Flames

    Caleb Sloan

Yeah... You thought I’d stay down.

Thought I’d believe every lie you fed me.

But here's the thing— You don't get to write my ending.

    I do.

Walked through the fire with your hand on my throat,

    Every word was a weapon,

    every promise a joke.

You painted me the villain so you'd look like the saint,

    Had me questioning my mind,

    had me drowning in blame.

    Gaslight in the morning,

    silent treatment at night,

    Love came with conditions,

    every wrong was a fight.

You'd tear me down just to watch me rebuild,

Then take credit for the pieces when you thought I was healed.

    I learned your patterns,

    I memorized the game,

Every accusation always ended with my name.

You needed control, needed somebody to break,

But you picked the wrong motherfucker to mistake for your prey.

    I gave you my trust,

you turned it into a chain,

    Gave you my heart,

    you turned it into pain.

But pain taught lessons that love couldn't explain— Now I'm walking through

the ashes and I'm screaming my name.

You tried to break me— I came back harder.

You tried to bury me— I dug through the darkness.

You took my peace— I took my power.

You wanted me weak— Now look at me towering.

    CAN'T BREAK ME. No,

    you can't break me.

    You can talk your shit,

But you can't fucking shake me.

CAN'T BREAK ME. You don't own me anymore.

I survived your war— Now I'm kicking down the door.

You loved the version of me that you could manipulate,

Hated every boundary that I tried to create.

Every time I said “no,” you called it betrayal,

    Every time I stood tall,

you tried to make me unstable.

You rewrote history, twisted every scene,

Made yourself the victim of the damage you'd bring.

Had everybody thinking I was losing my mind,

While you smiled for the world and destroyed me behind.

But the mask gets heavy when you wear it too long,

And the truth hits different when the victim gets strong.

    I stopped explaining myself,

    stopped begging you to see,

Stopped looking for permission just to fucking be me.

    Now the phone stays silent,

    your name's out my life,

    No more walking on eggshells,

    no more living in fright.

You can tell your little story,

you can paint me as the bad,

    But I know what I survived—and I'm proud of what I have.

    I ain't your punching bag.

    I ain't your fucking toy.

I ain't the person You destroy to feel employed.

You wanted obedience— I found my voice.

You wanted control— I made my choice.

And every scar you left Is proof that I survived.

You tried to kill my spirit— But that motherfucker's alive.

Now I'm standing on the ruins of the life that you made,

    Looking at the wreckage like,

“Damn, I escaped.” No revenge in my heart,

I don't need you to fall,

Your greatest punishment is knowing I don't care at all.

You can find somebody else to manipulate and control,

Somebody else to convince they're the reason you're whole.

But I'll never again confuse abuse with love,

Never call a cage “home,” never call fear “enough.” I lost myself

    trying to make you satisfied,

Then found myself the second that I walked outside.

Now the person in the mirror ain't afraid anymore— That's the motherfucker

you should've never gone to war for.
