They say every city has a story...
But some cities become part of yours.
Austin, Texas...
This one's for the dreamers.
I came up where the summer sun
Turns the pavement into fire,
Where a dollar didn't stretch too far,
But we still dreamed a little higher.
Morning traffic, working hands,
Another day, another mile,
Mama said, “Don't lose yourself
Chasing things that fade with time.”
I've seen this city change its face,
Watched those old roads disappear,
But there's something in that Texas wind
That still sounds like home in my ears.
We ain't promised easy roads,
We ain't promised where they end,
But every scar becomes a story,
Every stranger might become a friend.
Underneath that Austin sky,
We fall, we rise,
we learn to fly,
From the East Side streets to those Hill Country lights,
We're chasing tomorrow through the Texas night.
Let the guitar cry,
let that bass roll in,
Let the whole damn city sing again.
No matter where this road takes me,
My heart knows where I've been...
Right here, Where the Texas sky begins.
I remember when the rent was low,
Traffic moved and the skyline wasn't tall,
Now cranes in the air,
towers everywhere, Everybody wants a piece of it all.
But Austin ain't concrete,
Austin ain't gold, It ain't what somebody bought or sold.
It's the worker up early with dust on his boots,
It's the family holding tight to their roots.
It's tacos at sunrise,
music at night, It's getting knocked down and coming back twice.
It's Guadalupe dreams and a Congress glow,
It's taking that chance when you don't really know.
From I-35 when it's moving too slow,
Which means... pretty much always,
you know. We laugh,
keep rolling, got somewhere to be,
That's Texas stubborn mixed with Austin free.
We ain't promised easy roads,
We ain't promised where they end,
But every scar becomes a story,
Every stranger might become a friend.
Underneath that Austin sky,
We fall, we rise,
we learn to fly,
From the East Side streets to those Hill Country lights,
We're chasing tomorrow through the Texas night.
Let the guitar cry,
let that bass roll in,
Let the whole damn city sing again.
No matter where this road takes me,
My heart knows where I've been...
Right here,
Where the Texas sky begins.
Maybe home ain't where you're born,
Maybe home is what you build.
The people that you stand beside,
The promises you fulfill.
And when the years have changed these streets,
And time has taken what it can,
I'll remember who I became here...
Not just where I am.
So raise one up for the ones working late,
For the dreamers still knocking on destiny's gate.
For the mothers, the fathers,
the daughters and sons,
For everybody wondering when their time comes.
Keep walking. Keep building.
Keep faith when the road gets long.
'Cause sometimes the place where you struggled the most Becomes the place
where you belong.
UNDERNEATH THAT AUSTIN SKY,
We lived, we loved,
we learned to fly!
From the Colorado River to those Hill Country lights,
We carried our dreams through a thousand nights.
Let the guitar cry,
let that bass roll in,
Let every broken heart believe again.
And if tomorrow takes me far away,
I'll remember where I've been...
Where the sunsets burn like memories,
And the highways never end...
Austin, Texas... Where the Texas sky begins.
Yeah... Cities change. People change.
But some places... They
stay inside you. ATX.
