It's three AM, the radiator hums a hollow chord I'm staring at

the ceiling, getting intimately bored A drop of water hits the sink,

a sudden heavy clink My shadow stretches long enough to make a

shadow think Who's there?

No, it's just the old floorboards.

Or a breeze through the hall?

Now there's a rhythmic scratching scraping right behind the wall (keep quiet)

I hear the neighbor's TV but the static is too loud My

breathing got so heavy that it's forming like a cloud

There's a boot step on the porch

No, it's just the furnace shroud.

Wait a minute, why's the deadbolt sliding from the side?

No one's on the street,

there is nowhere left to hide Footsteps in the kitchen but the

front door's still locked tight It's coming from the hallway in the

middle of the night!
