Penicillins first—amoxicillin, ampicillin, Check for allergies—don’t cause a shrill thrill!

Anaphylaxis is the danger here,

Watch the airway, breathing,

clear.

Cephalosporins, the "Cef" and "Ceph" crew,

Cross-sensitivity is what they do!

If they’re allergic to the Penicillin pen,

Watch for hives with Cephalosporins then!

Gentamicin, Tobramycin, Amikacin too,

The "Mycin" gang is powerful,

it’s true.

But hear the warning,

clear and loud: Ototoxicity can draw a cloud!

Balance is off, tinnitus in the ear,

Nephrotoxicity—watch the creatinine gear.

Tetracycline—doxycycline, take it right,

Don’t take with dairy,

antacids, or sunlight!

Teeth discoloration in the young and small,

Don’t give to kids or pregnant moms at all.

Macrolides—Azithromycin, take the lead,

QT prolongation is the thing to heed.

ECG monitoring, watch that beat,

Keep the heart rhythm steady and sweet!

Fluoroquinolones—Ciprofloxacin’s the one, Tendon rupture is the risk when you’re done!

Achilles pain?

Stop the drug right now,

Report to the provider,

take a bow.

Vancomycin, the heavy-duty fight,

"Red Man Syndrome" if the drip’s too tight!

Infuse it slow, monitor the BP,

Hypotension if you

rush it,

see?

Before you give, check the labs and the flow: Culture and Sensitivity—get

it first, don't be slow!

Liver enzymes—AST/ALT, watch the liver’s state.

BUN/Creatinine—kidney function, don't hesitate.

Superinfection—watch the mouth and the gut,

C. diff diarrhea?
