Funny.
There used to be
so many of us.
Same table.
Same nights.
Same stupid plans.
Then life started
calling names.
Somebody moved west,
Somebody settled down, Somebody made the money
We all talked about.
Somebody stopped calling, Nobody knows exactly when,
Somebody I still think about
Ain't coming back again.
And somehow all those crowded rooms Got quieter with the years.
Not better.
Not worse.
Just different from here.
We all left the table
One at a time.
Different roads.
Different lives. So wherever yours goes— Remember mine.
If you get there before I do,
Save me a seat.
Somewhere near the window,
Leave a little room for me.
We've all got different roads Underneath our feet.
I don't know where we're going—
But if you get there first,
Save me a seat.
I still remember faces
From places that are gone,
People who knew versions of me
I've already moved beyond.
Some became strangers.
Some still call.
Some names only show up When an old song comes on.
Maybe that's just time.
Nobody did it wrong.
You don't notice people leaving— Until you notice who's gone.
If you get there before I do,
Save me a seat.
Tell the old stories wrong The same way we used to repeat.
Order something good. Keep one place free.
I'll take the long road— But save one there for me.
Here's to the ones
Who stayed awhile.
Here's to the ones I haven't seen in miles.
Here's to the ones I won't see again— You were part of
the road. You still are,
my friend. And if I'm the one who gets there first...
Don't worry. I know how many chairs we need.
SAVE ME A SEAT!
For the nights we forgot!
For the people we were!
For the plans that we made
Before we knew how life worked!
Let the piano climb!
Let the violins speak!
Every road goes somewhere— And every road keeps a piece!
So wherever this ends,
Wherever that may be— IF YOU GET THERE BEFORE I DO...
Save me a seat.
Same table.
Same stories.
Just save me a seat.
