(yeah) (check it out)
(un-hunh) John sees a new heaven and a new earth,
For the first heaven and the first earth passed away,
devoid of mirth. There is no more sea,
symbolizing chaos and separation ceased,
A complete renewal, a promise of perfect peace released.
(ooh yeah)
The holy city, new Jerusalem,
descends, prepared as a bride,
Beautifully adorned for her husband,
forever at God's side.
A loud voice from heaven proclaims God's dwelling with man,
"They shall be His people,
and God Himself shall be present,
as planned."
God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes,
There shall be no more death,
sorrow, crying, or pain despised; For the former things have passed away,
In God’s eternal presence,
joy and life hold sway.
He upon the throne declares,
“Behold, I make all things new,” These words faithful and true,
encompassing creation's view.
(ooh yes) “It is done.
I am Alpha and Omega,
the beginning and the end,
To him that thirsts,
will I give freely of the fountain of life's river,
without spend. He that overcoms shall inherit all things sublime,
I will be his God,
and he shall be My child for all time.”
But the fearful, unbelieving,
abominable, and sinful Have their part in the lake burning with fire,
full, and brimstone dreadful.
The angel shows John the bride,
the Lamb’s wife, The great city,
descending, filled with eternal life.
Her light like unto a stone most precious,
Even like jasper clear as crystal,
wondrous and spacious. With great high wall,
twelve gates inscribed with Israel's tribes,
Twelve foundations named for apostles,
in whom the church abides.
The city lies foursquare,
a perfect symmetry, With walls of jasper and streets of pure gold,
in God’s holy mystery.
(bring the beat back!) No temple is needed,
for the Lord God and the Lamb are the temple there,
The glory of God lights the city,
the Lamb its light to share.
No night, no need for sun or moon to shine,
The nations walk in the light and bring their glory into the
divine.
The gates never shut,
a symbol of security and peace,
Nothing impure will enter,
nothing unclean released. Only those in the Lamb’s Book of Life find
place, In God's eternal city,
full of grace.
Loving God, as we contemplate the glorious vision of Revelation
21,
fill our hearts with hope
and longing for the new heaven and new earth.
Amen.
