Imagine going back fifteen years.
Walk up to yourself and say: "Hey.
Soon your phone will recognize your face.
Your car will know where you're going.
A computer can write you a song.
And you'll carry basically all human knowledge in your fucking pocket." (shhh)
Younger me:
"Holy shit. What do we do with it?"
Mostly?
Watch dogs fall off couches.
NORMAL
IS GETTING WEIRD!
AND WE DON'T EVEN NOTICE!
Yesterday's science fiction is today's "accept all cookies!" NORMAL IS GETTING WEIRD!
EVERYTHING'S FUCKING AMAZING! And we're standing in the future saying— "Why's my
Wi-Fi taking so long?" (hahaha) I can talk to somebody on the
other side of Earth.
Instantly. In high definition.
And somehow I'm annoyed when their face freezes for three seconds.
Satellites circle the planet so I can find the nearest pizza.
Robots answer questions. Cars watch the road.
My watch knows I'm awake.
My refrigerator might know I'm out of milk.
Everybody knows everything.
Nobody knows what the fuck is happening.
We meet people through screens.
Work through screens. Argue through screens.
Order dinner through screens.
Then complain: "I've been looking at screens all day." While looking at
a screen. Makes sense.
NORMAL IS GETTING WEIRD!
THE FUTURE JUST WALKED RIGHT IN!
No flying cars required— we got computers making violins!
NORMAL IS GETTING WEIRD!
Yesterday would've blown my mind.
Today I yell at technology because it made me wait five seconds.
Maybe that's the weirdest part.
Not that all this happened.
It's how fast impossible becomes ordinary.
First time:
"THAT MACHINE CAN DO WHAT?!"
Two weeks later: "Why doesn't it do it better?" (ahhh)
Fair question.
NORMAL IS GETTING WEIRD!
AND WE'RE JUST WALKING THROUGH IT!
Every year the impossible happens— then somebody complains about the update!
NORMAL IS GETTING WEIRD!
(WEIRD!) AND TOMORROW GETS WEIRDER!
(WEIRDER!) So whatever you think sounds impossible now— Give the motherfucker time!
"You think this is weird?" "Give it a year."
