Yeah, street wisdom, ancient scrolls
(drop it)
When dining with a ruler,
watch your bite, Keep your appetite in check,
hold tight.
Don’t crave the dainties he unfolds,
For they’re deceitful, wisdom upholds.
Toil not for riches,
they sprout wings, Fly to the sky like eagle’s flings.
Cast but a glance and they are no more,
So set your heart on heaven's store.
Buy truth, don’t sell wisdom’s lore!
Instruction and insight, keep in store!
(oh yeah, keep it in store)
Eat not the bread of stingy hands,
Desire no sweets from their corrupt lands.
He’ll say, "Eat, drink," but he lies inside,
His heart’s not with you,
trust denied. A piece you eat,
a bitter pass, Vomit it up,
and waste your words alas.
Don’t speak in ears of a fool so vain,
For wisdom’s words in vain are slain.
Don’t move ancient boundary stones,
Or evade father’s paths in unknown zones.
The fields of the fatherless,
don’t be on, Their Redeemer’s mighty,
reliant upon. Apply your heart to discipline's art,
Keep knowledge close, never depart.
Buy truth, don’t sell wisdom’s lore!
Instruction and insight, keep in store!
(oh yeah, keep it in store)
Listen, my son, be wise on your beat,
And keep your heart on the right street.
Be not among winebibbers,
or those, Who gorge on meat as the overfed goes.
For drunkards and gluttons end up poor,
Drowsiness will clothe with rags once more.
Let your father and mother be glad,
May she who bore you be not sad.
My son, give me your heart so true,
Let your eyes observe what is right to do.
(make 'em glad, yeah,
observe what's right)
Who cries “woe”? Who sorrows long?
Who’s full of strife,
and wanders along?
Those lingering over wine’s sweet smell,
Seeking mixed wine, down they fell.
Don’t look at wine,
so red and bold,
When it sparkles in the cup you hold.
In the end, it bites like a serpent's kiss,
Stings like an asp,
beware of this.
Lord Jesus, we come before You,
seeking to escape the snares...
Guide us to walk in Your ways,
embracing the joy. Amen.
