(mmmm-hmm) Wisdom has built her house,
seven pillars in place,
She’s prepared her meat,
wine mixed with grace.
Sent out her maidens,
called from the height,
“Come, all you simple,
turn in for insight.”
“To him who lacks,
come eat my bread,
Drink of the wine I’ve carefully spread.
Forsake foolishness, live and see,
Walk in the way of understanding,
live free.” Who corrects a scoffer gets abuse,
Rebuking the wicked is no use.
But instruct the wise,
and wiser they grow,
Teach the righteous, and their knowledge will flow.
The fear of the Lord it’s wisdom’s start,
Knowledge of the Holy gives insight to the heart.
By wisdom, your days shall be increased,
And years of life will never cease.
If you are wise,
your wisdom’s your gain,
If a scoffer, alone,
your vile’s disdain.
Folly’s woman is loud and bold,
Seductive simplicity which grabs hold.
She sits at the door of her house,
so sly,
Calls to travellers passing by.
“Whoever is simple,” she calls,
once more, “Turn in here,” from her door.
Stolen waters, she says,
are sweet,
Secret bread, a tasty treat.
But little they know,
the dead are there,
In the depths of Sheol,
unaware.
Lord Jesus, in the tales of wisdom and folly,
we recognize our need for Your guidance.
Your life,
a feast of truth,
invites us to partake in eternal salvation.
Thank You for offering us the bread of life
and the living water
that quenches all thirst.
Lead us to walk in wisdom
and turn from paths that lead only to death.
In Your name, Amen.
