  • Wisdom’s Crossroads

    Wisdom’s Crossroads

    pure HI|1

    (mmm-hmmm) Does not wisdom call,

does not understanding raise her voice?

On the heights, by the way,

    she makes her choice.

At the crossroads, she takes her stand,

Beside the gates, in the city,

    a voice so grand.

    To you, O men,

    I call out to thee,

And my voice is to the sons of humanity.

    O simple ones, learn prudence,

    hear my plea, Fools,

    gain insight, listen to me.

Hear, for I will speak noble things,

From my lips, knowledge and wisdom it springs.

For my mouth will utter truth so bright,

Wickedness, in me, finds no light.

Take my instruction, not silver you chase; Knowledge over gold,

    for wisdom’s an embrace.

Wisdom’s better than jewels and treasure,

All desires can’t match its measure.

I, Wisdom, dwell with prudence here,

    Find knowledge and discretion near.

The fear of the Lord is to hate what’s wrong,

    Pride, arrogance, and deceitful song.

Counsel is mine; I give sound thought,

    By me, kings reign,

    and justice is sought.

I love those who love me back,

And those who seek me will never lack.

Riches and honour are with me,

    Enduring wealth, prosperity.

My fruit is better than gold refined,

And my revenue than silver to find.

Eternity sculpted me, before earth’s span,

Foundations laid, as the oceans began.

    Rejoicing always in His sight.

(always) Rejoicing in His inhabited land,

Delighting with mankind, hand in hand.

Heavenly Father, through the voice of Proverbs,

we hear wisdom calling us to embrace truth and life.

    Jesus, the embodiment of wisdom,

    leads us to the Father.

    Amen.
