(ahhhh) (shhh) My son, keep my words in your heart,
Treasure my commands, let them never depart.
Keep my laws as the apple of your eye,
Bind them on your fingers,
to wisdom fly. With wisdom say,
"You're my sister, true," Call understanding your kin to pursue.
To keep you from the stranger’s charm,
From the seductress, shield from harm.
From my window, through my lattice I gazed,
And saw among the simple,
a young man amazed.
He passed down her street at nightfall,
Toward her corner, a tempting call.
Dressed like a harlot,
sly in her way,
Loud and rebellious, out she lay.
At twilight, in shadows deep,
The tempter waits, the innocent to sweep.
She seizes him, and with a bold face,
Tells tales of peace offerings and her place.
“I sought you out,
I found you here,
My bed with perfumes,
come near.” But little he knows,
like an ox to slaughter,
He follows her till he falters.
Like a bird hurrying to a snare,
Not knowing it will cost him there.
Listen, my children, attend to my sound,
Let not your heart
in her ways be found.
For many wounded, her house laid low,
The way to Sheol,
to flights of woe.
Lord, Proverbs 7 starkly shows the danger of succumbing to temptation.
Through Jesus, our Saviour,
we find strength to turn from sin.
Deliver us from evil.
Thank You for Jesus,
who conquered sin.
In His name, Amen.
