Man, everybody used to have an opinion. (haha)
Funny.
I haven't heard one lately.
When nothing worked,
everybody knew why.
Everybody had a roadmap,
everybody had advice.
"You should probably quit that." "You should do this instead." Funny how
somebody else's future gets so clear inside your head.
Every little failure brought another expert out.
Every quiet month gave somebody shit to joke about.
Then the numbers started moving,
doors started opening— And suddenly all those brilliant people ain't got shit
to say to me.
FUNNY HOW THE ROOM GOT QUIETER
WHEN IT STARTED WORKING!
Same people had a lot to say when nothing looked certain.
Nobody said, "I was wrong." Nobody changed their mind.
THE ROOM JUST GOT QUIETER ONE WIN AT A TIME.
Funny how the room got quieter!
I ain't asking what it means.
I'm just enjoying all this silence where the opinions used to be.
Used to hear "Be realistic," now it's "Man,
I always knew."
That's an interesting revision— I remember version two.
Used to laugh at every failure,
now they're studying the moves,
Same mouth, different story,
depending what there is to lose.
I don't need an apology,
don't need anybody embarrassed.
Keep the flowers, keep the speeches,
keep pretending you were there.
I'm too busy moving forward
to investigate the past— But damn,
the silence got expensive fast.
Where'd everybody go?
I kinda liked the advice.
...Never mind.
Talk when it's failing,
watch when it climbs,
Laugh when it's crawling,
get quiet when it flies.
Everybody's fearless when the scoreboard says zero— Then the numbers start changing
and suddenly— Silence.
Beautiful.
FUNNY HOW THE ROOM GOT QUIETER WHEN IT STARTED WORKING!
All that expert conversation started disappearing early.
Nobody said, "You were right." I don't need 'em to agree— THE
ROOM JUST GOT QUIETER,
AND THAT'S LOUD ENOUGH FOR ME!
Funny how the room got quieter!
Let the fucking bassline speak.
Every doubt got turned down while the 808 got deep.
I ain't mad. I ain't bitter.
Matter fact— TURN THAT SHIT UP.
I CAN FINALLY HEAR THE MUSIC.
Much better.
