Closer Than Before

I used to watch somebody else's race

And wonder why I wasn't in their place

Counting every trophy they could show While forgetting all the ways that

I had grown Different roads Different starts Different battles Different hearts

Why would I measure where I stand

Against somebody else's plan?

So I look into the mirror

And I finally understand

The person I am chasing

Is the person that I am

Better than yesterday That's the race I'm running A little wiser every

day A little stronger becoming I don't need your timeline You don't

need mine We were never meant to grow At exactly the same

time Better than yesterday That's enough for me One more lesson One

more step One more possibility

I don't compete with everybody I compete with who I used to

be

Maybe someone launched before I did

Maybe someone found success as just a kid

Maybe someone's million came at twenty-two

That doesn't tell me what I'm meant to do

Their victory is not my loss Their road does not become my

cost I can cheer when others win And still believe

my time begins No jealousy inside me

No bitterness to feed

Another person's harvest Doesn't steal away my seed

Better than yesterday That's the race I'm running A little braver every

day A little stronger becoming I don't need their numbers I don't

need their name My responsibility Is improving my own game

One percent better One page more

One stronger habit One opened door

One better conversation One lesson understood One mistake corrected One decision made

for good That's progress That's power That's how mountains move

You don't have to become someone else

You have something here to prove

To yourself

I am improving. I am learning.

I am growing at my own pace.

I respect my journey.

I celebrate other people's success.

Their success does not diminish mine.

I do not need comparison to create motivation.

I can become better without becoming bitter.

I am building skills that nobody can take away.

I am proud of how far I have come.

And I am excited about how far I can still go.

Yesterday taught me

Today can change me

Tomorrow will meet The person today's choices made me

BETTER THAN YESTERDAY

That's the life I'm building A little smarter every day

A little more resilient My lane My pace My purpose My way

I'm not trying to become them I'm becoming better every day Better

than yesterday

Look how far we've come No comparison

No competition

With anyone

One more lesson One more victory The only person I must beat

Is yesterday's version of me

Don't chase somebody else's life.
