I had a plan. (NOPE)
I haven't even told you the plan.
(Still nope) Fair enough.
Thought I'd keep that job—didn't last.
Thought that girl was staying—there went that.
Thought that opportunity changed my life— Three months later it disappeared overnight.
Thought I'd live there,
thought I'd know, Thought by thirty I'd have somewhere to go.
Every time I drew the perfect route,
Life grabbed the marker— crossed that shit out.
(NEXT!) Job fell through—found another road.
Plan went broke—learned what I didn't know.
Door slammed shut—I cursed that door,
Five years later wouldn't open it anymore.
THANK GOD HALF MY PLANS WENT WRONG!
I'D BE LIVING SOMEBODY ELSE'S LIFE IF THEY HADN'T!
Every perfect little future I was counting on had to fall apart
before I could move beyond it!
I thought losing meant something was gone— THANK GOD HALF MY PLANS
WENT WRONG! (HALF?) Okay,
most.
Thought THIS idea was definitely it— (NOPE!) Thought THAT one couldn't possibly
miss— (MISSED!) Thought love meant forever— (ADORABLE.)
Can you let me finish?
(Apparently life didn't.) Lost one thing,
met somebody new. Missed one chance,
learned something useful. Took wrong road,
ended somewhere strange. Stayed too long,
finally learned to change.
Every disaster looked enormous that day,
Then became one sentence when I explained it away.
See?
Even the song
can't stick to the plan.
(GOOD.) Why good?
(KEEP GOING.)
Maybe I would've gotten
everything I asked for.
That's terrifying. Because I was making plans
with information I didn't have yet.
For a person
I hadn't become yet.
(Exactly.) Don't get smug.
THANK GOD HALF MY PLANS WENT WRONG!
I'D BE LIVING SOMEBODY ELSE'S LIFE IF THEY HADN'T!
Wrong jobs, wrong roads,
wrong people moved on,
and somehow every wrong kept pushing me along!
I don't need the future proving me right— JUST DON'T LET MY
OLD PLANS DESIGN MY LIFE!
(PLAN A!) Dead! (PLAN B!) Also dead!
(PLAN C?) No idea! (SCARED?)
Little bit. (GO ANYWAY.) That's the plan.
(NOPE.) Jesus Christ.
So what's the plan now?
(Find out.)
