That Was The Good Part
Remember when we'd meet up
with absolutely no plan?
(YEP!) And then spend six hours
not making one? (YEP!)
Those nights were fucking great.
Standing in a parking lot,
leaning on cars, Said we'd go somewhere—never got far.
One guy hungry, one guy broke,
Somebody tells the same damn joke.
Forty-five minutes deciding where to eat,
Then somehow we're still standing in the street.
Nobody taking pictures, nobody keeping score,
Just six idiots saying— ‘So...
what we doing?’ (I DON'T KNOW!) Perfect.
WE DIDN’T KNOW THAT WAS THE GOOD PART!
Driving nowhere underneath the streetlights!
Nothing to do
and nowhere to be,
Whole damn night and almost nothing was free!
We kept waiting for something big to start— WE DIDN’T KNOW THAT
WAS THE GOOD PART!
(THAT WAS IT! THAT WAS IT!)
Midnight fries from a place still open,
Drink in the cup and the straw half broken.
Music too loud, windows halfway down,
Drove twenty miles just to circle the town.
Talked about girls, jobs,
money and plans, Like any one of us knew who the hell
we were then. Somebody says,
‘Five minutes, then I'm going home.’ Two hours later— everybody's still fucking
there. (ONE MORE SONG!) Fine.
(ONE MORE STOP!) Fine.
(ONE MORE HOUR!) Absolutely not.
...Fine.
Here's the weird part.
If you'd asked us back then what happened that night?
Nothing. (Nothing.) But ask us now?
EVERYTHING.
Didn't know we'd get busy.
Didn't know people would move.
Didn't know getting everybody together
would someday require a fucking calendar. (hahaha)
We weren't making memories.
We were just
wasting time together. Turns out that's how you make 'em.

Bad food, cheap gas,
nowhere to go, Laughing at shit nobody else would know!
