I asked You once to take it from me
Then I asked You once again
And when the morning didn’t change I wondered how much longer I
could stand
I thought if You were really listening
You’d take this thorn away
But You met me in my weakness And You had something else
to say
Not “you’ll never hurt”
Not “you’ll understand”
But “you will never walk alone I’m holding you in My hands”
My grace is sufficient
for you When you don’t have enough
My strength is made perfect
When you’ve finally had enough You don’t have to hide your weakness
You don’t have to make it through
You can bring Me what you cannot carry
My grace is sufficient for you My grace is sufficient Even here
Even now
Even when the answer Isn’t what you asked for My grace is
sufficient for you I don’t want to call this easy
I don’t want to call it good
Just because I know You’re with me Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t change
it if I could
There are days I still cry out “Jesus,
please, take this away”
And I don’t think that asking means That I’ve forgotten how to
have faith
Because You never told me
That weakness meant defeat You only promised that Your power
Would meet me where I’m weak
If You remove this thorn tomorrow
I’ll still need You then
If You leave it for a lifetime I’ll still need You till
the end So I’m not measuring Your goodness
By the healing that I see
Your grace was never just the doorway
It’s what carries me
I can grieve And still believe
I can question And still trust
I can ask You for deliverance And still say,
“Your will be done”
Your grace is sufficient for me
When I don’t have enough
Your strength is made perfect When I finally realize I’m not enough
I don’t have to hide my weakness I don’t have to make
it through
I can bring You what I cannot carry And let Your strength
carry me through Your grace is sufficient Even here Even now Even
with the prayer That hasn’t been answered The way I wanted it
to be
Your grace is sufficient Not because this doesn’t hurt Not because I
understand But because You are still God And You are still holding
me So I’ll ask You one more time
And I’ll trust You with the answer
If You say “yes,”
I’ll praise You If You say “wait,”
I’ll praise You
If You say “My grace is enough” Then teach me how to
live there
Not because I wanted the thorn
But because I know You are here
Your grace is sufficient
for me.
