Becoming Free

I am not unfinished

I am alive in the process

I counted everybody’s milestones

Then wondered why I felt alone

I measured my beginning

By somebody else’s finish line

I thought the clock was judging me

That every delay meant defeat

Then the trees outside my window

Taught me every season has its time

I am not late

I am not lost

Growth is not a race that somebody else has won

I’m not behind

I’m still becoming

Every day a new light is coming What I do not know

I can learn

Every road can offer a turn I’m not too late

My life is opening

I am not behind

Becoming wiser

Becoming strong

Becoming more of where I belong

I can celebrate another

Without believing I have failed

Someone else’s shining moment

Does not make my future pale

I can change a dream that changed me

I can start a different way

There is courage in revising What no longer fits the person of

today

I am not late

Every lesson counts, even when it came with cost
