Thought she was the one,
had the whole thing mapped,
Future in my head while she covered her tracks.
I was building something real,
she was playing an act— She thought she tricked me… then I
learned from the trap.
(YOU LEARNED!) I THOUGHT SHE WAS THE ONE— BUT SHE TRICKED ME!
Thought I knew the game— SHE SWITCHED IT QUICKLY!
Had me looking one way while the truth slipped by,
But the joke gets old when the fool gets wise.
Thought she was the one— Yeah,
she got me once.
But once was enough— NOW GOOD FUCKING LUCK.
I don't need revenge,
don't need her regret,
Best payback's becoming harder to get.
Every little lie put a tool in the set,
Now I read what ain't said before words even get said.
I was trusting the picture,
missed cracks in the frame,
Thought loyalty meant everybody played the same.
That's on me—I was new to the game,
But you don't burn twice when you remember the flame.
So keep the tricks,
keep the smoke, keep the mirrors,
Funny how betrayal makes your eyesight clearer.
I didn't lose everything when she disappeared— I lost one illusion and
gained twenty years.
Did she fool me?
(ONCE!) Did it hurt?
(YUP!) Did I break?
(NOPE!) What'd I learn?
(TO WAKE THE FUCK UP!)
I THOUGHT SHE WAS THE ONE— BUT SHE TRICKED ME!
Now I don't call pain some beautiful gift,
It sucked when it happened,
let's leave it at this: I got hit,
got wise, got harder to trick,
Turned one bad chapter to a permanent shift.
No bitterness needed, no villain required,
Just somebody played me and somebody got wiser.
She walked out thinking she'd put out the fire— Didn't know disappointment
was excellent lighter. Now my instincts sharpened,
standards went high, I hear little changes in the shape of a
lie. You can fool who I was,
but that version retired— The man that walked out ain't the man
that walked inside. (HE LEARNED!)
Thought she was the one.
(SHE WASN'T!) Thought I was done.
(YOU WEREN'T!) Thought she broke me.
(SHE DIDN'T!) She educated me.
(YEAH!) I THOUGHT SHE WAS THE ONE—
BUT SHE TRICKED ME!
Thought she took me down— LOOK WHO'S STILL WITH ME!
Got fooled one time,
now my
eyes stay wide, You can
steal one round—you don't get my life.
Thought she was the one,
But here's what she missed:
SHE TRICKED THE OLD ME—
THE NEW ONE EXISTS.
Thanks for the lesson. (NEXT!)
