Two hundred and six.
That's the crew.
Let's meet them. Top to bottom.
Let's GO!
Start at the top,
the cranium's the dome,
eight bones fused together,
that's the brain's home.
Mandible's the jaw, the only skull bone swinging,
fourteen facial bones keep your smile blinging.
Down the neck we go,
seven cervical stack, twelve thoracic in the middle,
five lumbar in the back.
That's the vertebral column,
S-curved and strong, thirty-three at birth,
keeps the whole crew standing tall.
Bones! (Bones!) Two-oh-six in the frame!
Skull to the toes,
every one's got a name!
Bones! (Bones!) The scaffolding of you!
Calcium crew, coming through,
coming through!
Clavicle, the collarbone, scapula's the blade,
sternum in the center where the ribs cascade,
twelve pairs of ribs like a cage for the heart,
protecting all the treasure,
that's the skeleton's art.
Humerus, upper arm, no joke,
it's true, radius and ulna let the forearm move.
Eight carpals in the wrist,
five metacarpals spread, fourteen phalanges wave hello,
enough said.
Pelvis is the basin where the top meets low,
femur is the longest bone,
the thigh's CEO. Patella's the kneecap,
guarding the hinge, tibia takes the weight while fibula's the fringe.
Seven tarsals in the ankle,
calcaneus the heel, five metatarsals arching,
keeping walking real. Fourteen toe phalanges,
and now you know the map,
from the crown to the ground,
that's the skeleton rap!
Cranium to phalanges. Two hundred six deep.
Strongest crew you'll ever meet.
And they all work for free.
Drink your milk. Peace.
