The Distance Between Stars

I looked into the night sky

and wondered where you are

every little light above me

was another distant star

Some of them are gone now

but their shadows still remain

traveling through the darkness like a forgotten name

Maybe we are all just signals

moving through the endless blue

leaving little pieces

of everything we knew

There is a distance between stars

a space we cannot see

but somehow all the light arrives from where it used to be

There is a distance between stars and a distance in our hearts

but every little memory

still finds its way across

The universe is patient

it doesn't need to hurry

the moon doesn't chase tomorrow

the ocean doesn't worry

Maybe nothing disappears

everything becomes light
