    Known and Seen

    Hollow Saint|1

(hummmmm) (ahhh) I'm whoever you need me to be,

A different face in every room.

    I laugh when you laugh,

    I agree when you do,

I make myself comfortable in your shoes.

    You call me easygoing,

You call me kind and sweet,

But nobody ever asks me What I need.

Everybody knows me, But nobody knows me.

    I'm everybody's favorite Until I'm finally lonely.

    I bend until I break,

    Then smile like nothing's wrong.

I've spent my whole life Trying to belong.

If I stop being everything you want,

Will anybody stay? Or was I only lovable When I gave myself

    away?

Then I met two girls one afternoon,

    And somehow they just knew.

    They didn't need an explanation

For every little thing I do.

One made me laugh until I cried,

    The other held my hand.

And neither one expected me To be someone I wasn't.

They didn't ask me to be perfect,

    Didn't ask me to pretend.

For the first time in my life,

I think I found my friends.

    Everybody knows me,

But these girls really see me.

They don't love the version That I think I'm supposed to be.

    I can say no,

    I can say

yes, I can show them when I'm stressed.

And somehow they don't disappear— They just sit beside me here.

    We stay up talking nonsense,

We laugh until we can't breathe.

They know all my weirdest habits And still don't want to leave.

I don't have to read the room,

I don't have to choose my words.

I can tell them when I'm hurting,

    And they listen without judgment.

Maybe friendship isn't earning Someone's love by giving more.

Maybe being truly known Means they still love you at your worst.

I spent years afraid that “no” Would make everybody leave.

But these two girls taught me I don't have to disappear to

    be loved. Everybody knows me,

And now two girls know me too.

    They know the messy,

awkward parts And somehow love those too.

    I don't have to bend,

    I don't have to hide,

    I've got two

best friends Standing right beside my side.

And if I lose my way again,

They'll remind me who I am— Not everybody's person.

    Just myself.

    And their best friend.

I used to think belonging Meant becoming someone new.

Now I know I found my people When I finally stayed true.

    Two girls, two best friends,

And a heart that's finally free.

Everybody knows me... And now they really see me.

    (see me)
