The tracks are old and weathered,
the wheels are worn and true
I've run this coaster for the kids,
for fifty years or two
The sea is blue,
the gulls cry out,
the summer sun is high
And I will take one final ride before I say
goodbye.
I'm the roller coaster operator's last ride,
the wheels begin to climb
The click-clack of the chains,
the happy, simple rhyme
My grandson's sitting next to me,
his laughter fills the air
And I will be the coaster man,
with joy beyond compare.
I've seen the children's faces light,
as they went up the hill
I've seen the lovers hold on tight,
a happy, thrilling thrill
The screams of joy,
the hands held high,
the rush of wind and speed
And I've been the one to send them off,
a happy, simple creed.
We crest the top,
the world below, the ocean's sparkling blue
My grandson shouts "This is the best,
the best that I ever knew"
We rush down fast,
the wind in our face,
a moment of pure delight
And I am the coaster operator,
happy in the light.
I'm the roller coaster operator's last ride,
the wheels begin to climb
The click-clack of the chains,
the happy, simple rhyme My grandson's sitting next to me,
his laughter fills the air
And I will be the coaster man,
with joy beyond compare.
With joy beyond
compare. (hummmm)
