  • The Last Mill Pond Dive

    The Last Mill Pond Dive

    Tarun Music

The water's cold and deep and still,

the mill is long since gone

    I've swum here every summer

since I was a little one

    The bulldozers are coming in,

    the pond is being drained

And I will take one last dive,

for all the summers I've obtained I'm the mill pond swimmer's last

dive, the water's like a mirror

I see the boy I used to be,

    my vision's getting clearer

    The rocks are smooth,

    the depths are dark,

I know them all too well

And when I surface one last time,

    I'll say a final farewell

My father taught me how to swim

    in eighteen forty-nine

He said this pond would always be a place that's yours and

    mine

But progress has a different plan,

    they're building condos here

And I will lose the pond I loved,

    my childhood disappeared

I climb the old rope swing again,

I swing out over the deep

I let go of the world and fall,

    the memories I keep

    The water closes over me,

it's cold and dark and true

    And when I rise,

    I'm not the same,

    but I'll start something new

I'm the mill pond swimmer's last dive,

    the water's like a mirror

I see the boy I used to be,

my vision's getting clearer The rocks are smooth,

    the depths are dark,

I know them all too well

And when I surface one last time,

    I'll say a final farewell (ooh-ooh-ooh)

    Final farewell
