The biggest signs happened out of sight
Lying in bed at the edge of the night
Wishing I'd wake up as a girl the next day Imagining a
life that was hidden away
Thinking over and over again A wish that was quiet,
a secret back then
I buried those thoughts in the back of my mind
Believing that everyone felt them in time But apparently,
they don't (they don't)
When I finally realized what was true
It didn't feel like becoming someone new
It felt like I finally understood
Who I'd always been,
who I always would
(always been!) So I think of the chemical steps ahead
No longer running from what must be said
Every blocker and hormone to find my frame
Reclaiming my body, reclaiming my name
This is no small decision,
I know
But it is the path where I have to go
HRT will change my skin and my bones
No longer walking this dark road alone
I finally know who I am
(who I am!)
