Yeah…
They tried to tell me who I was before I knew my
name.
But I had to lose the mask just to recognize the face.
Uh.
This is me.
I came from a place where they label you quick,
Put a box on your soul,
then they tell you to fit.
I was searching for a mirror that reflected the truth,
Had to silence every voice just to hear my own roots.
I ain’t who they said,
I ain’t what they expect,
I’m the scars on my heart and the dreams in my chest.
Every failure left a fingerprint under my skin,
Every loss taught me something I could carry within.
They wanted me to change just to make them feel safe,
But I learned being different is the price of my greatness.
Now I walk in my name like I earned every letter,
I don’t need their approval—I’m becoming much better.
Who am I when the lights fade?
Who am I when nobody stays?
When the world tries to take my name,
I still know my heart won’t change.
This is my identity,
No, you can’t take it away from me.
Through the highs, through the pain,
Through the sunshine and the rain,
I know who I am…
I know who I am.
I don’t need you to define me,
There’s a fire living deep inside me.
Let the whole world see,
I’m becoming who I’m meant to be.
This is my identity.
I got history written all over my face,
But I don’t run from the past—I put it right in its
place. See, identity ain’t clothes,
ain’t a chain, ain’t a car,
It’s knowing who you are when they strip you of it all.
I been underestimated, overlooked,
counted out, Now I’m turning every “no” into something they talk about.
Had to separate my ego from the person I became,
’Cause sometimes chasing validation makes you run from your name.
I’m not perfect, I’m human,
that’s the beauty in the story,
Every crack in the foundation gave the building more glory.
I don’t need to imitate greatness—I got my own lane,
Why would I chase somebody else’s when I’m building my name?
I see the light inside your eyes,
Even when you’re fighting through the night.
You don’t have to hide anymore,
You were made for something more.
Take off the mask,
Leave fear in the past,
Look in the mirror and say:
“I know who I am.”
So if they ask me who I am,
tell ‘em I’m still evolving,
A product of the problems that I somehow kept solving.
I’m the voice of the kid who was scared to speak loud,
Now I’m standing ten toes with my head in the clouds.
I’m my father’s lessons,
my mother’s strength, I’m the people I loved and the distance I
went. I’m the dreams I protected when nobody believed,
I’m the man in the mirror that I finally achieved.
And I ain’t finished—nah,
that’s the part they don’t know,
Identity ain’t a destination,
it’s the way that you grow.
Every chapter adds a piece,
every scar leaves a clue,
And after everything I’ve been through— I’m still me.
This is my identity,
(Yeah, this is me.) No,
you can’t take it away from me.
(Can’t take it.)
Through the highs, through the pain,
Through the sunshine and the rain,
I know who I am… (I know who I am.)
I don’t need you to
define me,
There’s a fire living deep
inside me.
Let the whole world see,
I’m becoming who I’m meant to be.
This is my identity.
If the world forgets your name,
Don’t forget yourself… You were never meant to be somebody else.
You were born to be you.
And that’s the one thing nobody can take from you.
Your identity.
