  • Lila and the Hare

    Lila and the Hare

    LightofLion

One day I sat beside my screen,

    working quietly at home,

when across the northern fields I saw little Lila come.

    She was carrying something

    bigger than I knew,

walking through the summer grass with something strange to do.

When she reached the horse pasture,

where the hay was short and bare,

I looked again and understood: Lila carried a young hare.

    Oh Lila, wild spirit,

what did you find out there?

What brought you through the fields with that little young hare?

I watched, but could not understand the story you would share.

Maybe no one knows the truth.

    Only Lila knows. (hmmmmm)

Only Lila knows. I went outside to find them near the buildings

    in our yard.

    Lila stayed beside the hare,

    watching it with careful heart.

She did not seem to hurt it.

She did not want it gone.

She moved around it gently as if guiding it along.

Then Usva came to join us,

    quiet mother standing there.

Two cats watching closely over one small tired hare.

I made Lila let it wander.

    Slowly it moved away,

toward the fields in the south at the ending of the day.

    Oh Lila, wild spirit,

what did you find out there?

What brought you through the fields with that little young hare?

    I watched, but could not

understand the story you would share.

Maybe no one knows the truth.

    Only Lila knows.

Only Lila knows A few days later Lila came and asked me

    to follow near.

    Into our front garden

    she made her purpose clear.

She led me to a berry bush and waited quietly there.

Beneath its leaves I found again the little young hare.

    Its journey here was over.

    Its spirit had gone home.

I held the little body and knew it was time to let

    it go.

    I chanted to the Goddesses,

    I chanted to the Sun,

and beneath a nearby tree its earthly journey was done.

    Many answers came to mind.

    Many stories could be true.

But thoughts are only thoughts when we do not really know.

One returned again and again: Maybe Lila found it weak,

somewhere in the woods or fields,

and her caring heart decided to bring it somewhere near.

Why she brought it home with her,

    I cannot

truly say. There was only one who knew what happened on that

    day.

    Oh Lila, wild spirit,

    you carried something home.

Through the grass and through the fields you walked your path alone.

    Maybe it was care.

    Maybe something else was there.

I will leave the mystery with the one who found the hare.

Only Lila knows. And that is enough for me.

Only Lila knows. I can let the story be.

A wild cat. A little hare.

A summer field. A moment shared.

Not every story needs an answer.

Some can simply live inside the heart.

    (hmmmmm) Only Lila knows.
