God, I remember when I was young,
When life got heavy way too soon.
Me and my siblings learned what hunger was,
And lonely nights inside an empty room.
We didn't understand the struggle,
Didn't know why life could hurt that way.
Sometimes I looked up to the heavens,
Wondering if You had walked away.
But now I see it so much clearer,
Looking back through older eyes.
What I thought was Your absence
Was Your hand protecting our lives.
When we had nothing,
You made a way,
When fear surrounded us,
You made us brave.
When darkness came and hope felt gone,
You were there all along.
You were there, You were there,
When nobody knew the weight we had to bear.
When we closed our eyes with fear in the night,
You stood beside us till the morning light.
You were there, You were there,
When hunger had us wondering if anybody cared.
Somehow a door opened,
somehow we were fed,
Somehow Your mercy kept a roof above our heads.
I thought You left us,
But now I understand...
You never let us go,
You held us in Your hands.
There were nights we didn't know tomorrow,
Days filled up with uncertainty.
Childhood shouldn't carry that kind of sorrow,
But those days became a part of me.
And every meal that somehow found us,
Every morning we opened our eyes,
Every danger that passed around us Was a blessing we didn't recognize.
We didn't have much in our pockets,
But heaven never lost our name.
Even when I couldn't feel You,
God, You loved us just the same.
I used to ask,
"God, where are You?" But I was too young to understand That
protection doesn't always look like a miracle.
Sometimes it's making it through one more night.
Sometimes it's finding enough food for one more day.
Sometimes
it's waking up the next morning
And realizing your family is still beside you.
We didn't see angels.
We didn't hear thunder from heaven.
But somehow... we survived.
And now when I look back,
I know exactly where You were.
You were there.
You were there, You were there,
When nobody knew the weight we had to bear.
When we closed our eyes with fear in the night,
You stood beside us till the morning light.
You were there, You were there,
When hunger had us wondering if anybody cared.
Somehow a door opened,
somehow we were fed,
Somehow Your mercy kept a roof above our heads.
I thought You left us,
But now I understand...
You never let us go,
You held us in Your hands.
When I couldn't see You,
You were still watching me.
When I couldn't feel You,
You were still carrying me.
When I thought we were alone,
We were never alone.
You were there.
You were always there.
So if that child inside me Could hear these words today,
I'd tell him: "Don't be afraid.
Hold on.
This storm is not the end of your story.
One day you'll look back and realize...
God never left us."
