  • Roads to Home

    Roads to Home

    chibaba

    My name is Munotida-ishe,

    I’m somewhere far from home,

Trying to find the man inside me On a road I never

    chose.

    Every morning, same alarm,

    Same uniform, same tired eyes,

I tell myself, “Just keep moving,” But this job is eating me

    alive.

    I work all day,

    I come back empty,

Not just pocket — even my soul,

Some days I ask what I am building,

Some days I really do not know.

I miss those voices back in Zimbabwe,

Friends who knew me before this life,

    The jokes, the streets,

    the family gatherings,

The simple things now feel so bright.

    Munotida, we still remember you,

    Distance never changed your place,

Your mother asks when you are coming,

Your friends still laugh about the old days.

Do not think because you are far away That home has forgotten

    your name.

Sometimes one phone call saves me,

One familiar voice can change my night,

    When everything here feels heavy,

Home reminds me why I still fight.

Both: One day I’m coming home,

    Zimbabwe,

One day when the road gets clear,

I’ve been carrying home inside me Every single day out here.

I’m tired, but I’m not finished.

Keep going, your day will come.

    Both: Munotida-ishe, keep believing,

One day you will make it home.

I see my friends still moving forward,

Some got married, some built homes,

I smile with them through little screens,

Then put the phone down here alone.

But those calls are like small fires,

    Keeping something warm in me,

My brother saying, “Do not give up,” My mother saying,

“We still believe.” I cannot promise when I’m coming,

I only know I still will try,

    When Zimbabwe finds its morning,

I want to see it with my eyes.

    Maybe I’m still finding myself.

    Maybe finding yourself takes time.

Maybe this road is not forever.

Maybe home is still your light.

    I miss you.

    We miss you too.

Both: One day I’m coming home,

Zimbabwe, I can feel that day somewhere,

All these nights and all this working

Will not keep me forever here.

    My road is hard,

    but I am walking.

Your people still believe in you.

    Both: Munotida-ishe,

    keep your heart strong,

There is still a home for you.

I stay close through every phone call,

    Every laugh and every prayer.

Zimbabwe… I am not home yet.

But one day, I will be there.
