  • Hearts Still Home

    Hearts Still Home

    chibaba

Zimbabwe, my heart is still at home,

Though this life has taken me far away,

We crossed the borders chasing better days,

But my heart never left home.

    (Home... back home...)

We grew up when the country was already tired,

The good old nineties were stories we heard,

    Then the two-thousands came

and everything changed, We had dreams in our hearts but the doors

stayed closed. Degree in my hands,

    still no job in sight,

Food getting higher, money never enough,

So I packed my bags looking for a chance,

Not because I wanted to leave,

    I just wanted to live.

(Just wanted to live...) I left my mother,

    I left my father,

Years keep passing, I can't hold them closer,

Thought across the border there'd be some light,

But I left my heart in Zimbabwe.

We left home, not because we wanted to,

Hard times gave us no other road,

Zimbabwe, if you could only hold us,

    We'd stay right there,

    we would never go.

The money is here— But my heart is back home.

We're living so far— But my heart is back home.

    Both: We left home,

    not because we wanted to,

We were only looking for a better life.

(Back home! Back home!) Living abroad isn't easy like they told us,

Rent so high and the taxes keep taking,

Different culture, trying hard to belong,

    I smile through the daylight,

    cry for home at night.

Years keep moving, family keeps growing,

Watching their lives through a phone and a camera,

I keep saying one day I'll be coming home,

But that one day keeps moving further away.

Down in South Africa they say,

'Go back home,' But home is the place where we're searching for

hope, We never came here to take what is yours,

We're only trying to provide for the ones we love.

    We don't want trouble,

    we don't want a fight,

We're already tired from surviving this life,

If home could give us just one real chance,

Who would choose to live so far away?

Hospitals don't have what the people need.

Schools don't give the hope they used to bring.

    So many young people,

so little work. And we're still asking,

'When will it change?' Both: We haven't forgotten where we came from,

Even though this life has scattered us,

If one day home becomes home again,

We'll come back together and build it again.

We left home, not because we wanted to,

Hard times gave us no other road,

Zimbabwe, if you could only hold us,

    We'd stay right there,

    we would never go.

Years go by and I still miss my mother.

Working far away, still thinking of my father.

    Both:

    Don't ever say

    we don't love our country,

Our hearts are still back home.

    We went far, but the
