  • Heart of Steel

    Heart of Steel

    Jbpjbp

    It was two thousand four,

    I was just a kid,

Sunday afternoons were the best they ever did.

    Black and gold were calling,

    I believed from the start,

Number seven walked right into my heart.

    Every touchdown, every comeback,

every game, Made me proud to wear that Steelers name.

People saw a quarterback throwing every pass,

I saw someone who inspired me to last.

    Then one summer day,

dreams came alive, Standing at training camp,

    hoping he’d arrive.

He heard somebody call his name,

Turned around and smiled the same.

He looked at me and said,

“Don’t move, I’ll be right back.” Through the crowd he disappeared,

Then came back just like he promised he’d be there.

With a football in his hands,

He sat beside me where I stand.

Signed it, “All My Best,” with a smile so true.

That’s the moment I always knew… Heroes really can be real,

When they show a heart of steel.

It wasn’t just the autograph that stayed with me,

It was kindness anyone could see.

He could’ve walked right on that day,

But instead he chose to stay.

    Some memories never fade away,

No matter how many years have passed.

Every time I see that football now,

    It takes me right back.

    Life isn’t always easy,

    Sometimes the road gets steep.

But that simple act of kindness Is a memory I’ll always keep.

Because heroes aren’t just measured By touchdowns that they throw.

Sometimes they’re remembered most By the love they choose to show.

He heard somebody call his name,

    Turned around just the same.

“Don’t move, I’ll be right back,”

    Words I’ll never take back.

He returned with that football in his hands,

Sat beside me like we’d always planned.

Signed it, “All My Best,” for me to hold,

A treasure worth more than gold.

From two thousand four until today,

The Steelers have lit my way.

And every time I wear black and gold,

I remember that story I’ve always told.

    Some people call him quarterback…

Some people call him legend… But to me,

    he’ll always be… My real-life superhero.
