Paper Moons

We were drawing constellations

On a ceiling made of gray.

Turning little sparks to galaxies That always slipped away.

Every promise caught the daylight,

Folded into tiny planes.

Watching all our paper moons Drift beyond the windowpane.

Maybe we were made of moments,

Never meant to stay the same.

Still I keep your quiet echoes

Like a fire without a flame.

We're chasing paper moons tonight,

Holding shadows to the light.

Every dream we couldn't keep Still finds a place inside of me.

If the sky forgets our names,

I'll remember just the same.

Even when the stars don't bloom,

I'll still believe in paper moons.

Photographs are growing older,

But the colors never fade.

Every laugh we left behind

Still dances through the rain.

Maybe nothing lasts forever,

Maybe that's what makes it real.

Every goodbye leaves a doorway Only time can truly heal.

I don't need the perfect ending,

Only memories that shine.

Even if they're made of paper,

For a while they still were mine.

Fold another hope together,

Watch it rise into the blue.

If it falls back down tomorrow,

I'll just build another new.

Every ending writes a story,

Every tear becomes the sea.

What I lost became the reason I discovered parts of me.

We're chasing paper moons above,

Learning how to carry love.

Every fragile piece we find Leaves another light behind.

Though the night may come too soon,

Hope still rises with the moon.

Even dreams that disappear Leave the sky a little clearer.

Some things aren't meant to last forever...

Only long enough to change us.
