  • Harvest Warmth

    Harvest Warmth

    Back country roads|1

    {sleigh bells light sprinkle,

    acoustic guitar strumming,

melodic fiddle fill} The first snow settled on the old red barn,

Morning sun was warming up the farm.

Smoke rolled high from the chimney stack,

Everybody knew they’d soon be back.

Daddy split another load of oak,

Mama laughed through the woodstove smoke.

Lights were hanging on the fence out front,

’Twas the biggest Christmas every month.

{brushed snare country shuffle} Pickup trucks came rolling through the gate,

Nobody around here ever showed up late.

{pedal steel swell building tension} It’s Christmas on the farm,

    everybody’s welcome here, Neighbors,

    friends, and family

    gathering year to year.

Hayrides through the snowy fields beneath the moon so bright,

Carolers singing while the stars shine through the night.

Hot cider, cocoa, pies fresh from the oven warm,

A little piece of heaven… it’s Christmas on the farm.

    {sweet three-part country harmony,

    joyful sleigh bells}

Kids were building snowmen by the creek,

Snowball fights went on for half the week.

Grandpa told stories by the firelight glow,

    About Christmases from long ago.

The old barn echoed with fiddle tunes,

Boots kept dancing underneath the moon.

From the youngest child to the oldest friend,

Nobody wanted the night to end.

{fiddle-led country groove} Church bells ringing across the hills,

Peace so deep that your heart stands still.

We bowed our heads and gave God thanks,

For every blessing these old fields gave.

{solemn pedal steel, church bell ring,

intimate vocal} It’s Christmas on the farm,

    where every heart belongs,

Front porch full of laughter and old country songs.

The whole town gathered ‘round the fire,

    sharing love and cheer,

Making memories we’ll carry every year.

When the snow falls softly on these fields so calm and warm,

There’s no place I’d rather be… than Christmas on the farm.

{grand country finale, full vocal harmonies,

sleigh bells} So if you’re passing by when the winter winds are

    blowing,

Pull on in, friend—the porch light’s always glowing.

There’s an empty chair waiting by the fire to keep you warm…

    Merry Christmas

    from our little farm.

{vocal trail off, acoustic guitar fade out,

    soft fiddle

    sustained note}
