{chicken-picking electric guitar, steady acoustic strum,
warm analog room reverb} (woo-hoo)
Got an old hound dog
layin’ on the porch,
Lazy as a Sunday till he’s off like a torch.
Big ol’ floppy ears and a nose that won’t quit,
Lord, that old fool will chase just about anything.
If a leaf starts blowin’,
he’s gone in a flash,
Kickin’ up dust through the pasture grass.
He don’t need a reason,
don’t care where it’s been,
That crazy old hound just chases the wind.
He’s eat, sleep, bark,
run, do it all again,
Nose to the ground just chasin’ the wind.
If you let one rip,
Lord, he’ll take off then,
Thinkin’ he’s trackin’ somethin’ way out there again.
Big floppy ears and a nose so wide,
Tail waggin’ proud with country pride.
Ain’t a smarter dog that’s ever been… But he’s the best old
hound at chasin’ the wind.
He’ll run through the cornfield,
splash through the creek,
Come back home
lookin’ tired for a week.
Roll in the mud till he smells just right,
Then howl at the moon every single night.
Squirrels all laugh when they see him go,
Rabbit says, “There he goes again,
don’t ya know.”
Never caught the breeze,
but he’ll always pretend,
Tomorrow he’ll wake up and chase it again.
Grandpa just smiles from his old porch swing,
Says, “That dog’s got life figured out,
if you ask me.” Don’t worry ‘bout tomorrow,
don’t dwell on the past,
Just run while you can and make the good times last.
{building tempo dynamic}
He’s eat, sleep, bark,
run, do it all again,
Nose to the sky just chasin’ the wind.
The whole county knows he’s a lovable fool,
Never needed manners, never followed the rules.
He ain’t won a ribbon,
he ain’t no champ,
But he’s king of the farm and the backwoods camp.
One day when he’s gone,
I’ll still grin…
Rememberin’ my old hound dog
chasin’ the wind. So here’s to old dogs with hearts of gold,
Their stories are better than treasures untold.
Long live the hounds with their big black nose… Still chasin’ the
wind wherever it blows.

out with slow acoustic picking and distant hound howl}
