(hummmm) Staring at the drawing board again Sweat on my collar,
dust on my shoes
Learning the trade that I didn't choose
Drafting the blue-sky plans on the floor
Wondering what all this patience is for
They say you must crawl
before you can run
But I want to stand in the heat of the sun
It's a long way up from the basement light
But I'm holding the spark and I'm climbing tonight
I am still in the making,
still finding my feet
Working the night shift,
carving the street
Every mistake is a stone in the wall
Building a draft that will never fall
Old handshakes on the factory line
They tell me to wait,
that I'll get my time
But the ink on my map
is beginning to dry
I'm scanning the edge where the earth meets the sky
With a hammer in hand and a fire in my chest
I won't stop at good
till I find what is best
I am still in the making,
still finding my feet
Working the night shift,
carving the street
Every mistake is a stone in the wall
Building a draft that will never fall
Let the rain wash the plans away
I'll draw them better tomorrow
Better than yesterday
Still in the making (hummmm)
