Fires Within

Twenty-eight and staring at the ceiling again,

Asking questions that nobody could answer back then.

Had faith in my hands,

had doubt in my chest,

Built wars in my mind,

couldn't give them a rest.

Read books looking for a map to the stars,

Found philosophers talking 'bout invisible scars.

Everybody had a meaning,

everybody had a way,

But I was still getting lost at the end of the day.

Some nights felt empty,

some days felt cursed,

Tried to understand the universe before myself first.

Chasing something bigger than money or fame,

Looking in the mirror asking,

"Who am I today?"

Every time I fell down,

I learned how to stand alone.

Every closed door became Another road back home.

Same wound, same soul,

but I'm still here.

Lost myself a hundred times,

but I'm still here.

Rain came, pain came,

I don't fear. Everybody left,

look around, I'm still here.

Same road, same scars,

Nights got cold, heart got hard,

I'm still here. Dreams broke,

hope broke through the windshield.

Life tried taking everything,

Now I'm making songs from the pages I wrote,

Turning all my old pain into something people quote.

Every city, every face,

every lesson that remained,

Every goodbye taught me something every hello couldn't explain.

Used to think I needed answers,

Now I live with the unknown.

Built a little light inside,

And finally made it home.

Got dreams in my pocket,

Got fire in my lungs.

If they ask me where I'm headed,

Tell 'em I have just begun.
