Four women die daily in the U.S.,

killed by current or former partners—a love turned to hate,

What do I say about this?

Do I just sit back and wait?

One hundred and forty women and girls,

killed by a family member globally,

Every day, it's a silent war,

what am I fighting for?

Killed every ten minutes—a life erased,

a light gone out,

By someone they love and trust,

can I look inside?

To prevent these deaths,

I gotta swallow my pride.

So I'm drawing a line in the sand right now,

This is my sacred vow.

I am BFF America.

I take the pledge.

I will be nonviolent.

Respect my body, protect Mother Earth.

I take the pledge,

with my camo wristband.

Say it out loud for my brain to register,

my heart and my hands.

I pledge to be nonviolent.

I pledge to respect my body,

I pledge to protect Mother Earth.

It begins with me,

and it begins with you.

I can't control others,

but I can control my own mind,

my own hands, I can't fix the system,

I can fix me.

My own words, my own rage,

the things that I choose to say,

I won't let my ego or my anger lead me astray.

I'm checking my reflection,

looking in my eyes,

Am I part of the problem,

or part of the rise?

I'm owning my actions,

starting right now.
