Miles From Dawn

I woke up chasing something I could never name,

Another sunrise, another day that looked the same.

Had a pocket full of nothing but a head full of dreams,

Trying to build a better life from broken little things.

I never saw the distance while I walked through the rain,

Never counted all the lessons buried underneath the pain.

But somewhere in the struggle,

something started to change,

And the man inside the mirror wasn't looking quite the same.

I kept my eyes upon the road ahead,

Forgot the miles and every tear I shed.

Then I turned around and finally understood,

I'd come much farther than I ever thought I could.

I'm a million miles from yesterday!

From the broken roads and dreams that slipped away.

Still got mountains left to climb,

Still got battles in my mind,

But I'm not the man who started on this way.

Let the world keep spinning,

let the seasons change,

I've been through the fire,

I've been through the rain.

And even if tomorrow feels a million miles away,

I'm a million miles from yesterday!

I built a thousand little worlds beneath a glowing screen,

Made a voice from empty silence,

made a movie from a dream.

Every failure was a teacher,

every setback was a test,

Every night I thought of quitting put a fire in my chest.

While the city fell asleep,

I was learning something new,

Trying things that everybody said were impossible to do.

And I don't know where it's going,

don't know where the story ends,

But I've learned that every ending is a place to start again.

I used to think success would change my name,

That someday I'd arrive and feel no pain.

But maybe all the meaning's in the climb,

And becoming takes a lifetime,

not a finish line.
