Still I Rise
Yeah…
Sometimes life gets hard,
and nobody understands.
You gotta find your own way,
Even when you don't have a plan.
This is my story…
This is who I am.
I was five years old when I lost my dad,
Too young to understand why life got so sad.
At thirteen,
I lost my mama too,
Now I'm out here trying to figure out what to do.
No one to guide me,
no hand to hold,
Growing up too fast in a world so cold.
Watching all my friends living life with a smile,
While I'm fighting my battles,
mile after mile.
Sometimes I feel like I'm falling behind,
Too many questions running through my mind.
I try to stay strong,
but the pain runs deep,
Got a thousand things I can never speak.
I'm still standing, even when I'm broken,
Got so much pain that I've never spoken.
Came from the bottom,
trying to make a way,
Dreaming of a better life someday.
I've been knocked down,
but I won't stay low,
Got a long way to go,
but I'm ready to grow.
They don't know my story,
they don't know my fight,
But I'm still chasing dreams in the middle of the night.
Grandpa told me I could make it to college,
Gave me hope when I was searching for knowledge.
I worked so hard just to make him proud,
But sometimes the truth gets lost in the crowd.
They thought I had money,
but I had nothing to give,
Just trying to survive,
just trying to live.
I tried to explain,
but they wouldn't believe,
It's a different kind of hurt when your own don't see.
Then one day, I was told to leave,
Had nowhere to go,
didn't know what to believe.
I asked myself, “Where am I supposed to stay?
How am I gonna make it through another day?”
No mom to call,
no dad by my side,
So I swallowed my tears and kept my pain inside.
I don't need the world to feel sorry for me,
I just want a chance to become who I can be.
One day, I'm gonna look back at these days,
Remember all the nights I fought to find a way.
Turned my heaviest scars into wings to fly,
(I can touch the sky)
I'm still standing,
