I hear the numbers...
I hear the sighs...
I see the worry
Behind their eyes.
And everybody tells me
That it'll be alright...
But why am I still thinking About money
every night?
I hear the talking in the kitchen,
About the bills that have to be paid.
I pretend that I'm not listening,
But the words don't go away.
I see my mom working so hard,
Trying to make everything okay.
And I wish that I could help her,
But I don't know what to say.
I look around at everything,
And wonder what we might lose.
I never thought that growing up Would mean being scared of bad
news.
I know it's not my job to fix it,
But I can't turn off my mind.
Every time I hear the word "money," I wonder what we'll leave
behind. I'M TOO YOUNG TO HAVE THESE WORRIES!
BUT THEY'RE RUNNING THROUGH MY HEAD!
MONEY ON MY MIND!
ALL THE TIME, ALL THE TIME!
I'M TRYING NOT TO PANIC,
BUT I CAN'T LEAVE IT BEHIND!
I DON'T NEED A MILLION DOLLARS!
I DON'T NEED A PERFECT LIFE!
I JUST WANNA STOP THE WORRY THAT KEEPS ME UP AT NIGHT!
Oh-oh-oh, I'm trying to be brave!
Oh-oh-oh, wishing everything would change!
I DON'T WANNA LIVE IN FEAR!
I JUST WANNA FEEL OKAY HERE!
I see the prices getting higher,
Hear the grown-ups talking low.
I wonder if there's something happening That they don't want me to
know. I think about the little things,
Like going places, having fun.
Then I start to feel so guilty,
Like I shouldn't ask for anyone.
I don't wanna be a burden,
Don't wanna make things worse.
So I keep all my questions hidden,
Even when the silence hurts.
Sometimes I wish I had the answers,
Or a way to make it right.
But I'm just trying to be a kid,
And get some sleep at night.
I DON'T WANNA CARRY ALL THIS!
I JUST WANNA FEEL ALIVE!
Mom, I see you trying,
Even when you think I don't.
And I know you say you've got this,
But sometimes I worry that you won't.
I wish
I had a magic answer,
Wish I could make the numbers right.
Wish I could take the weight you're carrying And make it disappear
tonight.
But maybe I can tell you What I've been scared to say.
That all these little worries Have been following me every day.
I DON'T NEED TO SAVE THE WORLD!
I DON'T NEED TO FIX IT ALL!
BUT I NEED SOMEONE TO HEAR ME!
WHEN MY WORRIES FEEL THIS TALL!
MONEY ON MY MIND!
BUT I WANT MY LIFE BACK!
I'M TIRED OF BEING SCARED OF EVERYTHING WE MIGHT NOT HAVE!
I DON'T NEED A MILLION DOLLARS!
I DON'T NEED A PERFECT LIFE!
I JUST WANNA LAUGH AGAIN WITHOUT THE WORRY IN MY MIND!
Oh-oh-oh,
I can feel afraid!
Oh-oh-oh, and still enjoy today!
I'M MORE THAN ALL THESE WORRIES!
AND I DESERVE TO FEEL OKAY!
The numbers might keep changing...
And I might still feel scared...
But maybe I can set them down...
Just for tonight.
