Funny thing about building something nobody sees...
They think nothing's happening.
You know better.
I got a thousand little failures in a folder on my phone,
And a thousand little victories that I celebrated alone.
Had a job that paid the bills and a mind that wouldn't
sleep, Had a future in my head that I was terrified to
keep. Learned to sell a stranger something,
learned to make a picture move,
Learned a number on a dashboard isn't evidence of truth.
Everybody sees the finished thing,
the color and the light,
Nobody sees the broken takes I stitched together late at night.
There's a sound behind the silence,
There's a spark beneath the floor.
I don't know what I'm becoming—
But I know I'm not done anymore.
THE WORLD DOESN'T KNOW YET!
What these hands have learned to make!
Every night I thought I'd lost it,
Every dawn I stayed awake!
LET THE WHOLE SKY OPEN!
Let the ground beneath me shake!
I don't need the world to see it—
I NEED SOMETHING REAL TO MAKE!
How a hundred people sign up and the money doesn't come,
How the loudest room on earth can make a working man feel
numb. So I put another record where the empty space had been,
Not because I know the ending—just to see what lives within.
If the numbers never love me,
I can change the way I play; I can keep the thing
that matters and throw yesterday away.
THE WORLD DOESN'T KNOW YET!
What these hands have learned to make!
Every night I thought I'd lost it,
Every dawn I stayed awake!
LET THE WHOLE SKY OPEN!
I NEED SOMETHING REAL TO MAKE!
Maybe the door won't open.
Maybe the deal won't come.
But none of them were wasted,
Not the ones that fell apart.
You can lose a thousand outcomes Without losing who you are.
I used to think the breakthrough had to sound like cheering crowds,
Now it sounds like one more heartbeat cutting through the doubt.
Let the platforms keep on changing,
let the fashions come and go,
I'm not married to the method,
I'm committed to the growth.
And if someone asks what all this is,
I'll finally tell them straight: It's a life I couldn't picture that
I'm learning how to make.
THE WORLD DOESN'T KNOW YET!
But I know the road I've made!
Every night I thought I'd lost it,
Every dawn I stayed awake!
LET THE WHOLE SKY OPEN!
I won't bargain with my faith!
I don't need the world to see it—
I NEED SOMETHING REAL TO MAKE!
They keep asking what I'm building.
So do I.
That's why I keep building.
