The Cross was too heavy for Jesus,
To carry to Calvary,
He staggered and fell beneath the Cross,
On the uphill road,
for me:
‘Twas because a mob cried,
“crucify Him,” And they urged Him on to the Tree:
The Cross was too heavy for Jesus,
To carry to Calvary.
The body of Jesus was beaten,
By sinful and cruel men,
They tortured and spat upon Jesus,
But not one did He condemn:
For His blood was to flow for the lost world,
From the fountains of pain and woe:
The Cross was too heavy for Jesus,
O, why should He suffer so?
The heart of our Jesus was broken,
Forsaken at Calvary,
His suffering soul cried,
“Oh Father,
Why hast Thou forsaken me”?
O, how great is thy love for Christ,
Jesus,
And thy soul to be cleansed and free:
The Cross was too heavy for Jesus,
To carry alone for thee.
The glory and beauty of Heaven,
Is Jesus of Calvary,
Yet many are spurning the Savior,
Still not listening to His plea:
But thy soul should not turn from thy Savior,
For the Light of the world is He;
The Cross was too heavy for Jesus,
To carry alone for me!
