Pocket and chords, not maximalism
R&B on Sounds favors mid-tempo feel, warm keyboard beds, smooth drums, and room for vocals. The flex is restraint: hats that do not machine-gun, bass that supports instead of soloing.
Useful starting points
- Piano and keys. Piano loops for progressions you can sing over immediately.
- Vocals. Vocal loops and vocal chops for hooks and stacks.
- Rhythm section. Browse drums and bass once the chords feel like a song.
Vocal-first is allowed
Many R&B sketches start with chords and a scratch vocal before drums. Keep hats sparse until the topline settles, or you will paint yourself into a busy groove you hate rewriting.

Start listening.
Download warm keys, sketch a vocal, then add drums only as loud as the topline still needs space.
