We live in a unique time. The worlds I once read about in the works of Gibson, Stephenson, Bethke and Sterling are slowly becoming reality. Corporations may not rule the world instead of governments, but they have enough influence to shape it. Technologies once imagined by science-fiction writers have become part of everyday life. We're practically living in the cyberpunk era — except without the flying cars and the perpetual rain pouring down on neon-drenched night streets. But we do have real high-tech, low-life. And perhaps the greatest and most accurate prediction of all was AI: a potential blessing and a potential curse for humanity, depending on who uses it, and how.
